Wells Fargo Strong Box

Rare Wells-Fargo & Co. heavy duty shipping chest made by Vanderman. These were used when valuables were to be shipped since they were much stronger than regular wooden chests. Steel chest bound with hardwood slats and C iron corners. These Vanderman chest's were used for many years, until Wells Fargo and Co. Express ceased to exist. These were not marked with the WF&CO. Logo since that would have attracted too much attention to them. The Vanderman Manufacturing Co., established in 1878 by William Vanderman and located in Willimantic CT.
